Homestudy

The homestudy is a compilation of interviews and a written report detailing the prospective adoptive family's life experiences, home, health, lifestyle, and support systems. In addition, the report also asks for three references and includes the necessary background checks completed for the prospective adoptive parents. This documentation is required for both international and US adoptions.

Once all documents are received, your assigned social worker will contact you to set up the first of three required interviews . At least one of these meetings must take place in your home.

The entire process normally takes 6 - 8 weeks from start to finish.

Children's Adoption Network performs homestudies for residents of Pennsylvania and New Jersey only. Please call us for a recommendation of homestudy agencies for an out-of- state locations or e-mail us for a list of agencies licensed in your state.

Post Placement Services

Most children from the United States who are placed for adoption are placed in their adoptive homes before the adoption is finalized. Termination of their birthparents' rights may take place concurrently with placement of the child. The court requires various reports from a licensed agency addressing the child's adjustment to their new home. In most cases, three reports are required.

For international adoptions, post placement supervision is usually required even though the adoption has been finalized overseas. Foreign governments do this as a means of keeping informed about the children and their adoptions in our country. The number of required visits vary from country to country.

If you are planning to apply for US citizenship for your child, you may wish to "re-adopt" them once you return to the United States. This process also requires post placement reports.

Children's Adoption Network performs this service for residents of PA and NJ only. Please call us for a recommendation of out-of-state agencies that perform this service.
